Karate is now joining Taekwondo, Judo, Wushu, and other martial arts in the list of sports that will be represented at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which begin on July 23, 2021. Eighty total athletes will be in attendance at the Games. Sixty will compete in the Kumite event and 20 in the Kata event, with an equal split of men and women competing. Spain ranks at the very top in Kata for both the men and women athletes. Sandra Sánchez and Damián Quintero are favored to win their respective competitions.
