I can tell you that the key is NOT I.Q. Certainly, to be successful, you must be fairly intelligent. But some of the most intelligent and educated (not the same thing, by the way) school owners that I’ve known will have failed. It’s not charisma. While it’s nice to have that trait—naturally or learned—it’s not the key. I’ve hired A LOT of highly charismatic instructors over the years. I’ve seen very low-key school owners and staff be very successful, some of them rather severe introverts. It’s also not training.
