Some people say that one-step sparring is impractical, because in the street no one throws one technique and then stays there frozen waiting for you to counter. Although it’s true that one-step isn’t a real self-defense situation, I believe it is an effective way to teach real world self-defense. I believe those who say it is impractical are thinking as fighters, not teachers. Teachers look to break the lessons down into small, digestible bites for their students, and then assemble those bites into a mouthful, then a full meal.
