MAWNews: Maybe an example of an outcome to focus on—at least in terms of setting standards might be, “You need to be able to do 100 push-ups in order to earn a black belt.” There might be a logic behind that. But if a student starts as a white belt and can already do 99 push-ups, and by the time they are promoted to black belt they can do 100, that feels like a failure. It doesn’t represent real growth or achievement. The journey and development along the way are what truly matter—not just hitting a specific number.
