MAWN: Whoa, that’s an amazing way to see your circumstances. How did you come to see a situation like this as a great thing for your life? WJ: My father had always warned me that jail was not a place for a man, especially a young black man. But despite his advice, I didn’t listen and found myself locked up. I was incarcerated, and it was a difficult experience for me because I was claustrophobic. Confinement triggered my claustrophobia, and I felt overwhelmed and wanted to take a sheet and hand myself.
