Failure is always an option, and it’s a tough lesson…a lesson some people can’t recover from. So, how do you incorporate failure into your martial arts curriculum without causing your students to quit? First of all, teach your students a growth mindset. A fixed mindset is one that doesn’t change: you are either smart or dumb, and you can’t change the cards you were dealt. You’re either strong or weak, fat or skinny, etc. A fixed mindset focuses on why you can’t: I can’t lose weight because ____; I was never good at math; I don’t like to exercise. A growth mindset focuses on growth: I may not be good
