Professionally, the UFC is doing great. It makes a lot of money for the owners, and millions of people watch the spectacle. It does promote the martial arts because it generates a lot of interest. However, the promotion does not help martial arts schools because it does not encourage people to join. You see, nobody wants to get hurt. It used to be that only certain professions were worried that hurting their hands would impair their performance at work—people like surgeons and secretaries. Nowadays, everybody needs dexterity in their hands because everybody has a smart phone. Nobody can afford a hand injury, so nobody wants to participate in UFC-style training.
